My attempt at creating a skeptical hero with a mythological feel: Available as a wallpaper in widescreen, standard, iPad, and iPhone resolutions.
Our hero carries her skeptic shield, defending herself from credulity, and her sword that easily slices through bad ideas with the strength of Occam’s Razor.
Choose from two different versions for the iPad.
Your feedback is always welcome in the comments below. If you enjoy the wallpaper, please donate, so that this nerd can create more skeptical artwork! There is also a print version available from Cafepress.
Update: Prints are now also available through deviantART.

Cool concept, but I think there are some issues with the design. Firstly, her pigeon toed stance takes away from the hero feel. Feet firmly planted and toes angled out is a sign of power. Secondly, you should research how shields are attached to the arm, they are usually not held by the hand alone. Her hold on the sword is also fairly weak, as if she would not know what to do with it. Its the little details that really sell an Illustration. She should look like she could take Jesus in a fight and come out on top.
I agree with Finn on the minor points he mentioned. It does kind of throw it off a little. I think it’s probably safe to say that a lot of skeptics are also a little…um, geeky. Given that supposition, it’s not to hard to imagine them having played D&D and thus noticing things like that.
I LOVE the idea of a mythic skeptic hero, though!
BTW, I see you were a TED fellow! Cool! I’m the licensee for TEDxRochester. If you’re still just a little North, feel free to join us on November 1st!
Yes, in the original sketch her hips were visible, so the pigeon toes make more sense when you can see her slanted hips. Also, I think I probably went for a more humble stance while focused on her feet, standing on ‘the shoulder of giants’. Also, these are, ya know…symbolic. I would say the most important things she has isn’t her sword and shield but her timepiece/compass, telescope, and super-cute crown! See, the great thing about mysticism is you can make up whatever excuse you want and always avoid criticism! hah hah!
I must say, though…seriously, Jesus? Wasn’t his superpower turning water into wine or somethin’? pfffft~
